Velcade Uses

Velcade (Bortezomib) belongs to a group of medicines called antineoplastic or cytotoxic medicines. You may also hear of these being called chemotherapy medicines. Your doctor may have prescribed Velcade for another reason.
How does it work ?
Velcade is in a class of medicines called proteasome inhibitors. Proteasomes are enzymes found in cells, and play a role in regulating cell function and growth. Bortezomib blocks the activity of proteasomes. This blockade can lead to death of cancer cells.

  • The solution can also be given subcutaneously as an injection into your thighs (right or left), or abdomen (right or left).
